Senior Photo Session Tips 2010

I know that preparing for your senior pictures can be very stressful but I want you to have fun, be yourself and enjoy the ride! In order to do that, here are just some tips on what to think about when you are getting ready for your senior photo shoot or any photo shoot. Just think of this as a time spent with a friend. We are going to have fun and get AWESOME pictures out of it!!Relax, it's always a good advice. Bring your favorite outfits and it will help! Have a good night sleep if your session is in the morning and drink plenty of water the day before.

Incorporate Fashion. Wear clothing that’s stylish and flattering. This is the opportunity to get ready for a picture and look AMAZING!!!Take your time picking your outfit and make sure it is comfortable for you! You have unlimited wardrobe changes so the more outfits you bring the more we will have to pick from. We can use that to our advantage and match your outfits with the backgrounds and surroundings. If you’re self-conscious about your arms, avoid sleeveless or cap-sleeve shirts and tank tops, as they tend to make arms look fuller. TIP: Solid colors photograph much better than busy patterns. Girls, if you like dresses please bring them. They look very nice in pictures and provide a very clean and stylish look.

Incorporate Shoes. When it comes to shoes if you would like to look glamorous wear heels, they are perfect for that. Pumps or boots, make them an accent piece in your wardrobe. Pick something with color, dressy or casual but make them stand out. If you don't like wearing heels, wear something cute. Flats can also work well if you mix them with the right outfit. Flip flops don't photograph well so I advice against it.

Your Hair
Remember that the only one that knows how your hair is supposed to look like is you so bring some help. Hair spray, a small mirror, clips and pins in case it's windy and we need to keep the hair out of your eyes and very important "a brush". Make sure that the way you wear your hair works with every outfit you picked since we will not have enough time for you to have many hairdos.

Your Makeup
Makeup that is well done is one of the best preparations you can make for your session. It will even out skin tones and help give your photos that extra pop for a model-like look. Even if you don’t normally wear makeup or wear very little, take the time to do it well and your photos will look their best. Try not to wear make up with an SPF because it will create a shine in your face. Remember to bring a translucent powder that will help with the shine without adding more color to your face. BOYS: bring a handkerchief.

Jewelry
Don't overdo it but some accessories can really add a nice touch to the pictures keeping in mind that big, shiny jewelry can distract from the important subject, you. Think about making your life easier and pack each set of jewelry for different outfit in a plastic bag and hang it with the different outfits. All that being said, the proper jewelry can really complement your outfit. It’s nice to have a variety to choose from and it doesn’t hurt to bring numerous options with you.

Props
They’re great! Bring props that help show who you are. Some popular choices are:
Sports equipment (soccer ball, basketball, softball bat, etc.)
Sports uniforms
Musical instruments
Activity related items (dance, art, school clubs, etc.)

Glasses
Most lenses have a glare. The safest option is to check with your eye doctor and ask if they’ll loan you a similar pair without lenses.

Tanning
Tan lines are a distraction and take away from your photos. We suggest you use a tanning bed and varied swimsuit tops to minimize any tan marks. If you feel you’re skin is too white and choose to tan outside or in a tanning bed, don’t overdo it. We don’t want you looking orange and leathery.

Complexion
Makeup helps a lot here, but we do retouch your photos, so please don’t be concerned about minor breakouts. We have you covered! If your acne is more severe, you’re still okay. We had bad acne is high school and understand! We’re happy to help you out with some extra retouching.

Friends & Parents
Friends or parents are welcome and often can be a help. However, if they distract you, it may be best to meet them when the session is over. You’re welcome to have a couple of shots with a boyfriend, best friend, sibling, or parent at no extra charge.

Weather
Don’t worry about clouds because they actually even out the light and make for ideal shooting conditions. But falling rain is an issue and we will have to reschedule. We will try to contact you first, but please call me at (412)657-9498 if you have any doubts or concerns.

Undergarments
Please make sure the colors of your undergarment coordinate well with your outfits and don’t show through your clothing. If you need a strapless, please bring one to your session. Tucking or moving straps will not always work or give the most pleasing look. Check ahead of time to ensure that undergarments don’t leave unpleasing lines underneath your clothing.

Finger & Toe Nails
If you paint your nails, make sure they’re done well for your session. Chipped nail paint will show and distract from you. Avoid bright colors that will distract from you and may not work with all your outfits. Instead, opt for basic or natural tones.

REMEMBER...WE ARE GOING TO HAVE FUN SO RELAX AND HYDRATE!!!

CUTE OUTFITS ALWAYS ENHANCE THE SUBJECT. REMEMBER THAT SOMETIMES LESS IS MORE, AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, BUSY PATTERNS CAN REALLY TAKE AWAY FROM THE SUBJECT. NICE SOLID SHIRTS, PANTS, SKIRTS AND DRESSES ARE ALWAYS BEST.

PROPS CAN BE ANYTHING THAT ADDS TO THE PICTURE. A SCARF, A CUTE HAT OR A NICE PAIR OF SHOES IN A VERY FASHIONABLE COLOR, SO THINK ABOUT ALL THESE LITTLE THINGS BEFORE YOUR SHOOT.

ACCESSORIES ARE ALSO A WAY TO EXPRESS YOURSELF! I ALWAYS THINK THEY SHOULD NOT TAKE THE SPOTLIGHT BUT THEY SHOULD ENHANCE THE SUBJECT. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR ACCESSORIES ARE NOT OVERPOWERING YOU AND YOUR OUTFIT.

IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR HAIR YOU MIGHT BE BETTER OFF HAIR DRYING IT AND LEAVING IT AS NATURAL AS POSSIBLE. BUT IF YOU GET A CHANCE TO DO YOUR HAIR KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU WILL BE CHANGING MANY TIMES AND THAT YOUR HAIRSTYLE SHOULD GO WITH ALL YOUR OUTFITS.
